College, Politics and Media

This post is intended for interaction and your personal opinion. I was going through recent news and stumbled upon a headline titled "The timeline for finishing college has slipped from 4 to 6  years. Will it ever go back".

In this article, it reveals how millions of freshmen are beginning college and are confident that they will finish college in four or less years. However, according to data, it is taking 6 to 8 years for the average student to finish.

Furthermore, the article points out how fewer than half of students will actually graduate in fours years while the cost of college will hinder to the rest, prolonging their time in college or simply giving up on a college career. The article continues to talk about the multiple problems that college student face, the link is provided below if further information is desired.

For the past couple of years we have heard many things such as the Biden Administration cancelling a certain amount of college loans or forgiven them alltogether. This has led to many posts on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc, in which people give their opinion over the matter. Many college students voted for or though of the idea of voting for Biden with the expectation of loan forgiveness and overall help in their debt.

What is your opinion over the matter. Is overall loan cancellation/forgiveness a good idea?

Why (especially considering the effect it has on the economy)?

Why is college taking longer to complete?

Are there alternatives to alleviate or fix college students struggles?

Is social media helping college students or making things worse, due to the awareness and information that it provides?

  1. This is a really good topic to discuss on your blog because as college students, it’s definitely something that is relevant. I have noticed in my personal life that lots of my friends and academic peers are a bit older than I am or are taking lighter class loads and taking about 6 years to get a degree as you talked about. I believe this is a combination of the cost of college as well as the cost of living. As the cost of living goes up, many students have to take on full-time jobs as well which prohibits their ability to perform as well academically. Great post and something to ponder!
